This is a trauma and violence informed art-based therapy group that seeks to provide supportive opportunities for children and teens ages 10-14 to explore themselves and their lived experiences. This will be a small group with a maximum of 8 participants. The group will be facilitated by Kelly Kirkham, RP (Qualifying), the Family Violence Prevention Program Coordinator at Wilmot Family Resource Centre.

This approach to art therapy is grounded in the belief that art making itself is therapeutic, and in the belief that each one of us holds the potential to grow and to heal.

Each of the six weekly sessions will begin with gentle, grounding movement, followed by the creation of art pieces while exploring different art materials in different ways. Participants will be invited to notice what those different materials and processes prompt in their bodies, emotions, and thoughts.

The goal of this group is to focus on curiosity, not technical skill, so there is no need for any previous art experience.
