Sharing: Storwell Self Storage is Offering a $2,000 Bursary to Help Foster Children Pursue Post-Secondary Education

We are excited to share this great opportunity to help foster children pursue post-secondary education:

Along with providing accessible and affordable storage solutions across the GTA Storwell is also devoted to helping out the local community through various charitable causes and social initiatives. Storwell has set up a bursary program for students who were part of the foster care system to help them pursue their post-secondary school education.

According to the Children’s Aid Foundation of Canada, right now there are approximately 63,000 Canadian children living in permanent care with foster families, extended family, or in group homes. Across the country, 235,000 children and youth have been identified as having experienced or being at risk of experiencing abuse and neglect. These children and youths often experience difficulties gaining access to adequate education opportunities, especially when it comes to post-secondary education. For every 1,000 youths in Canadian foster care, only eight go on to graduate with a post-secondary education. One of the largest barriers to entry for children in foster care is the financial burden that comes along with post-secondary education.

In response to the growing number of foster children and youth in care that struggle to afford post-secondary studies, Storwell has developed the Storwell Foster Children Bursary Program. The aim of the Storwell Foster Children Bursary Program is to provide foster children with resources and opportunities that might be otherwise unavailable to them. With the proper tools, these students can work towards building a better life for themselves through the pursuit of higher education.

Storwell offers an annual bursary of $2,000 to help foster children attend post-secondary schools and to offer a hand up as they make their way forward in life. The bursary application deadline is September 1st. Eligibility requirements and access to the application form can be found at: https://www.storwell.com/bursary-application

February 26th brings The Coldest Night once again

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 26th brings The Coldest Night once again

to Wilmot & Wellesley townships

WILMOT, Feb 4, 2022Wilmot Family Resource Centre is encouraging Wilmot & Wellesley residents to once again team up, fundraise, and walk in The Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY). This family-friendly, winterrific fundraising walk takes place on the evening of February 26, 2022 and supports people experiencing hunger, hurt, and homelessness in the townships.

Tens of thousands of Canadians will take to the streets for CNOY with events taking place in 150 cities, towns, and communities across the country. By walking together in the chill of the night, local participants will better understand the experience of being on the streets during a cold Canadian winter, while raising funds to aid the work of Wilmot Family Resource Centre in providing much-needed support.

Participants in Wilmot and Wellesley will walk a 2km or 5km route of their own choice and at any time on February 26th. They may walk on their own or in a small group. All those who raise over $150 (or $75 for youth) will also don iconic CNOY toques as they face the cold night.

This is Wilmot Family Resource Centre‘s fifth year taking part in the Coldest Night of the Year, and they’re aiming to raise $25,000 for their work with people experiencing hunger, hurt, and homelessness in Wilmot & Wellesley townships. An expected 100-150 walkers and 10-15 teams!

Wilmot Family Resource Centre has been serving the area for over 40 years, and the funds raised in the Coldest Night of the Year will help bring those in our community one step closer to safety, health and hope.
